Exercising – The Key for Stress Management.

Me, you, everyone experiences stress on daily basis. Stress can come from work, family, finance, exercise, school, even your personal thoughts. In short – stress is anything that demands your body or mind to experience change which result in emotional reaction (anxiety, chronic stress, anger), or a physical body reaction (increase in heart rate, blood pressure, adrenal activity).

However, not all stress is bad, for example stress experienced from exercising can be useful for you. Moreover, exercising is beneficial for your overall health.

Exercising does not have to be limited to a hard physical work at gym. It can be any form of physical activity such as aerobics, yoga or general walking. If you’re not an athlete or even if you’re out of shape, you can still make a little exercise go a long way toward stress management. Even daily morning stretching can be significantly beneficial for your physical and psychological well-being.

Furthermore, it is found that exercising, has significant benefits for stress relief and general stress management. Yes, that means walking, swimming, yoga, gym or any other type of physical activity has benefits for your mental health.

Exercise & Stress Relief

  • Physical activity has some direct stress-improving benefits. It increases the brain’s production of your feel-good neurotransmitters, called endorphins which result in positive feeling increase and pain reduction.
  • Helps you forget all irritations that you were feeling. When people exercise they tend to forget everything that was irritating and concentrate on their body’s movement which helps the brain relax.
  • Exercising has benefits for your mood and self-confidence. It can lower symptoms associated with mild depression & anxiety. Additionally, physical activity improves your sleep which is important for your overall good health.

Considering everything mentioned the exercising benefits are clear. It can ease your stress levels, improve your sleep and give you a sense of command over your body and your life. However, it is important to exercise regularly, otherwise the benefits will not be significant to improve your overall well-being.

For this reason, everyone should exercise at least couple of times a week. And for everyone starting I would offer to start slow. Make daily walks, build up your strength and confidence, then try running, swimming or anything you prefer. The goal is to start!
